18 back from traffickers
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) rescued 18 Bangladeshi nationals while they were being trafficked to India through Putkhali and Gotipara border points under Benapole Port Police Station last night.
Nayek Subedar Tofail Ahmed of Putkhali camp under BGB-21 Battalion said the border guards, acting on a tip-off, conducted drives in the areas and rescued them. Sensing the presence of the BGB members, the human traffickers fled the scene, he added.
The victims hail from different areas in Cox's Bazar, Narail and Brahmanbaria districts. They were later handed over to Benapole Port Police Station.
