16 gold bars seized, one held

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a man with 16 gold bars worth about Tk 70 lakh at Benapole land port in Jessore district yesterday. The arrestee is Hanif Ali, 35, son of Sahar Ali of Gatipara village under Benapole Port Police Station. The bars weighing 1.6 kilograms were kept inside the soles of sandals of the arrestee. Hanif tried to enter India with the gold bars through the border, said Col Jahangir Hossain, commanding officer of BGB-26 Battalion. A case was filed in this connection, said the CO.
