1 dead, 4 hurt in accident at BSRM factory in Ctg
One worker was killed and four others critically burned in an accident at Bangladesh Steel Re-Rolling Mills (BSRM) factory in Jorarganj area of Mirsharai in Chattogram today.
The deceased was identified as Md Kashem, 50, and the four injured are: Nazrul, 35; Giyas Uddin, 24; Mohiuddin, 30; and Nur Hossain, 26.
"Accidentally, molten iron from the furnace sprayed on the workers leaving one person dead and four others injured. We are trying to identify the cause behind the accident," Deputy Managing Director of BSRM Tapan Sen Gupta told The Daily Star.
He also said that they are trying to transfer the injured workers to Dhaka for better treatment.
All four injured are now being treated at the Burn and Plastic Surgery unit of Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), said Dr Rafiq Uddin Ahmed, assistance professor and head of the department.
"The accident took place at around 3:15pm. When we rushed to the spot we found that the factory workers had brought the fire under control around 3:40pm. We rescued the victims and sent them to CMCH," said Azizur Rahman, assistance director of Agrabad Fire Service and Civil Defence.
