By-polls to Dhaka 10, two other constituencies on March 21

By-elections to three constituencies, including Dhaka-10, will be held on March 21.

Election Commission Secretary Md Alamgir announced the by-polls schedule after a meeting at the commission today.

The other two constituencies are: Gaibandha-3 and Bagerhat-4.

Of the three, electronic voting machines (EVM) will be used in the by-polls of Dhaka-10 constituency while the rest will be held with traditional ballot boxes.

The last date for submitting nomination papers is February 19 and the last date for withdrawal of candidacy is February 29. The EC will scrutinise nomination papers on February 23.

Dhaka-10 was left vacant on December 27, while the constituencies of Gaibandha-3 and Bagerhat-4 went vacant on December 29 and January 10 respectively.

According to the constitution, if any constituency remains vacant, it is mandatory to hold by-polls within 90 days.
