DGHS statistician dies after contracting Covid-19 for the second time

A statistician of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) died during his second bout with coronavirus infection in Dhaka Medical College Hospital this morning.

Abdul Matin (58), worked at the civil surgeon's office in Narsingdi and got admitted to DMCH a month back after he tested positive for coronavirus, according to a press release jointly signed by Farida Begum, president of Bangladesh Statistics Association (Health) and Razi Uddin, secretary general of the same association.

Bangladesh Statistics Association is affiliated with the DGHS.

Following a few days of treatment, he recovered and left the hospital after testing negative for Covid-19 end of last month.

Later, Matin fell sick again with coronavirus symptoms and was admitted to DMCH on June 10. This was his second bout with the illness and he tested positive again for coronavirus. 

He was undergoing oxygen therapy and was being provided with other treatment for his underlying conditions, according to Razi Uddin.

Matin breathed his last this morning. "Abdul Matin was a hardworking colleague and his death is a loss for the nation especially during this Covid-19 crisis," Razi Uddin told The Daily Star.
