Chief Justice decides to run virtual functions of Supreme Court
Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain has decided to run functions of both the Appellate and High Court divisions of the Supreme Court through the virtual system from tomorrow till June 15 as en effort to contain the spread of Covid-19.
The Supreme Court administration today issued a circular to this effect, saying that the chief justice has taken the decision after discussing with the judges of the Appellate Division.
The chief justice also constituted 11 High Court benches for holding the hearing and disposing of the cases through virtual system till June 15.
The judges who have been assigned to conduct the HC benches are Justice Borhan Uddin, Justice Obaidul Hassan, Justice M Enayetur Rahim, Justice Jahangir Hossain, Justice Sheikh Md Zakir Hossain, Justice JBM Hassan, Justice Md Nazmul Islam Talukder, Justice Md Ashraful Kamal, Justice Md Mojibur Rahman Miah, Justice Muhammad Khurshid Alam Sarkar and Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman, according to another notification issued by the Supreme Court administration.
Judicial functions of more than 300 subordinate courts across the country have been taking place through the virtual system since May 11 amid the ongoing coronavirus spread.
About 21,000 people, who are accused in criminal cases, have already secured bail from those courts in the last 10 working days.
The virtual court functions started on May 11 after a gap of 46 days to deal with the urgent cases.
