Bandarban DC tests Covid-19 positive
Deputy Commissioner of Bandarban district Md Daudul Islam has tested positive for Covid-19, the district's civil surgeon said.
DC Daudul's report came positive last night, Aung Swi Prue Marma, civil surgeon of Bandarban, told The Daily Star.
"DC came in contact with Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs Minister Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing who earlier had tested positive last Saturday," the civil surgeon said.
"We sent the DC's swab samples for test on June 9 after he came in contact with Minister Bir Bahadur on June 7," he also said.
"DC Daudul has a mild fever and cold. Doctors came to his bungalow last night for checkup," said Md Shamim Hossain, additional deputy commissioner of Bandarban.
The civil surgeon also informed that around a hundred ruling party leaders, activists, policemen and journalists of the district had met with the minister before he left Bandarban for Dhaka by helicopter.
"We suggested those who came in contract with the minister to follow home quarantine, but most of them did not abide by the rules," said Aung Swi Prue Marma.
Meanwhile, the minister's personal assistant, one Mohila AL leader and two of his housekeepers also tested positive for Covid-19, he said.
Minister Bir Bahadur is now being treated at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in the capital.
