28, highest number of Covid-19 deaths reported in a day

Twenty-eight people have died with coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said today.

The first Covid-19 case in the country was detected 12 weeks ago.

The death toll now stands at 610 and the death rate at 1.37 percent, Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general (administration) of DGHS, said during the briefing.

One thousand seven hundred and sixty-four tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. With this, the total number of infected has reached 44,608.

A total of 9,987 samples were tested in 50 labs across the country in the last 24 hours, Dr Nasima said.

Meanwhile, 360 Covid-19 patients have recovered since yesterday, taking the total number of recovered patients to 9,375 and recovery rate to 21.02 percent, the DGHS official added.

A total of 469 people were put under isolation in the last 24 hours, she added.

Among the deceased, 25 were male, she said adding that 18 were from Dhaka, seven from Chattogram, two from Rangpur and another was from Sylhet division.

Of them, four were between 31-40, four between 41-50, nine within 51-60, six between 61-70, three within 71-80 and the other two were between 81-90 years old, Dr Nasima also said.

DGHS also published on its website "technical guidelines for prevention and control of Covid-19 social and institutional infections," ahead of the country's shutdown being eased.

The guideline also lists some mandatory steps to be maintained by the managements of the institutions to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
