Committee formed to scrutinise list of martyred intellectuals

Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has formed a committee to scrutinise the list of intellectuals, who sacrificed their lives during the Liberation War in 1971.

The committee includes researchers, freedom fighters and officials of the ministry.

The ministry issued a notification in this regard on November 19, according to a press release.

Dhaka University professors Muntassir Mamoon and Mesbah Kamal, President of Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee Shahriar Kabir, Trustee of Genocide-Torture Archive and Museum Dr Chowdhury Shahid Kader and its researcher Gazi Salauddin, NIPSOM's director Dr Baizid Khoorshid Riaz, freedom fighter and filmmaker NasiruddinYousuff,and Lt Col (retd) Sajjad Ali Zahir, BirProtik are among the committee members.

According to the notification, the committee will scrutinise the list of martyred intellectuals – their names and addresses -- and will also give their opinions.

They will also set a definition of martyred intellectuals for preparing the list, the notification said.

The committee will prepare the list after going overresearch books, newspaper clippings, TV report and other sources.

Besides, it will also check the applications received from different ministries, departments, organisations, districts, upazilas and other sources to recommend the names for the list.
