Two factories sealed for producing fake henna

A mobile court of Rab yesterday sealed two factories in Old Dhaka for manufacturing fake tubes of henna.

Raiding Minu Perfumery Works in Chawk Bazar, the court led by Executive Magistrate Md Sarwar Alam found eight employees stuffing cream into henna packets similar to that of Nirma Ltd, an Indian company, said a press release.

As Md Towfiq Ali, owner of the factory, failed to show necessary documents, the court shut the factory and sentenced him to three months' imprisonment and fined him Tk 1 lakh.

The court also raided Mehedi Perfumery in the same area. However, sensing presence of the court, the owner fled.

The court found workers preparing henna using jelly, nitric acid and colour and packaging it under the name Kironmala.

Besides, Abdul Hakim, owner of Niti Foods, was fined Tk 1 lakh as the factory was producing vermillion in an unhygienic environment.

Hakim was ordered to improve the situation in 15 days.
