Two ex-BTTB officials jailed for 5yr in Ctg

A Chittagong court yesterday jailed two former officials of Bangladesh Telegraph and Telephone Board (BTTB) for five years each in a case filed for misappropriating Tk 64 lakh from its fund.

The convicted -- Kamrul Hasan, then divisional engineer; and Md Hossain, a senior assistant -- who are on the run were also fined Tk 32 lakh each, said special public prosecutor Mahmudul Haque Mahmud.

Anti-Corruption Commission filed the case against them with Double Mooring Police Station on October 30, 1999, he said. The anti-graft watchdog submitted a charge sheet against the accused on June 26, 2012 and the court framed charge on May 30, 2013, he added.
