Tanore mayor takes oath on parole

The newly elected mayor of Tanore municipality Mizanur Rahman Mizan took oath in Rajshahi city as its mayor after being freed on parole yesterday following a High Court order.

Police arrested Mizan, also president of the municipality unit of Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, at his oath-taking venue at Rajshahi Shilpakala Academy on January 20 in a case filed over a clash with police in the city during BNP-led alliance hartal on January 7 last year.

Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Munir Hossain administered the oath at his office under a special arrangement.

Mizan was freed for two hours in the morning following the HC order and returned back to the Rajshahi Central Jail after the ceremony at 10:25am, said Shafiqul Islam Khan, superintendent of the jail.

He said on Saturday evening the jail authorities received the HC order that directed the authorities concerned to arrange the oath-taking on parole following a writ petition.
