A Dhaka court today accepted the charges against Jahidur Rahman, a sub-inspector of Mirpur Police Station, and four others in a case filed in connection with the killing of garment waste trader Mahbubur Rahman Sujan.

Judge KM Imrul Kayes of Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court passed the order after scrutinising a report on the killing conducted by Metropolitan Magistrate SM Ashiqur Rahman.

Sujan, 35, was allegedly tortured to death by some cops of the police station in the wee hours on July 13 last year. His wife Momtaz Sultana Lucy filed the murder case with the Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court on July 20 on the same year, accusing 10 persons.

Accepting the case, the court earlier ordered a judicial enquiry into Sujan's death. Later, the case was handed over to Detective Branch (DB) of police.

Three others cops who were involved in the torture of Sujan are Assistant Sub-inspector Raj Kumar and constables Asad and Rashedul of Mirpur Police Station, according to the findings of the one-member probe body of Metropolitan Magistrate Ashiqur. Besides, one Mithun was found guilty.

Now behind bars, Jahid was suspended and later arrested in the case.

The three other cops have been absconding since filing of the case. However, Mithun is now in jail.
