Shawkat Mahmud gets bail in 2 cases
The High Court yesterday granted ad-interim bail to former president of Jatiya Press Club Shawkat Mahmud for six months in two vandalism and arson cases filed on February 1 this year.
It also issued two separate rules asking the government to explain in four weeks why Shawkat, also an adviser to BNP chairperson, should not be granted regular bail in the cases.
The cases were filed by police on February 1 on charges of vandalising and torching vehicles during hartals called by BNP led alliance. Shawkat cannot get released from jail since he is arrested in similar cases.
