A Dhaka court yesterday allowed police to interrogate BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's adviser Shawkat Mahmud at the jail gate within three working days in an arson case filed on January 21.

Earlier in the day, Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ataul Haque sent Shawkat back to jail after rejecting both his 10-day remand and bail prayers in the case.

The case was filed with Paltan Police Station for torching a vehicle in the capital's Paltan. In the case, Shawkat's name was not included.

On August 18, the former president of the Jatiya Press Club was arrested in Panthapath and was later shown arrested in 13 arson and murder cases. He was also remanded for 12 days in those cases.

Besides, police have already submitted charge sheets against him in separate cases filed with Jatrabari Police Station.
