Manikganj police inspector closed after allegation of sexual harassment
A police inspector in Manikganj has been closed after an allegation of sexually harassing a woman was brought against him.
Md Touhiduzzaman, officer-in-charge of Shantipur Police Investigation Center in Singair upazila, was withdrawn from his office on Sunday and attached to Manikganj Police Lines after a written complaint by the woman, reports our local correspondent quoting police.
In her complaint to the superintendent of police in Manikganj on March 7, the woman said Touhiduzzaman occasionally called her from his personal mobile phone and asked her to meet him at his office.
On February 21, he called her and asked her to go to his office after evening. He also threatened her with dire consequences if she failed to do so, the complaint read.
When she went to the office, he immediately grabbed hold of her and tried to force her into a bathroom. She managed to break free of his grip and fled, the complaint added.
Rifat Rahman Shamim, superintendent of police in the district, said the matter was under investigation. The accused officer was withdrawn from his office and attached to Manikganj police following the complaint, he said.
When contacted Touhiduzzaman, however, said he knew nothing about the allegations against him nor does he know why he was closed.
