Man held for 'raping' speech impaired girl

Police yesterday arrested a person in connection with a case filed for raping a 12-year-old speech-impaired girl in the capital's Uttar Khan area two days ago.

The arrestee is Rifat, 17, a neighbour of the victim.

The girl's grandfather told The Daily Star that Rifat raped his granddaughter after dragging her to a nearby house on her way home from a neighbour's house.

Earlier, they also scolded Rifat as he used to stalk his granddaughter, he added.

The girl was sent to One Stop Crisis Centre of Dhaka Medical College Hospital yesterday.

The girl's mother and all four siblings are speech-impaired. Her father has been missing for 11 months.
