Man gets life term for raping minor in 2008

A court in Chattogram today sentenced a man to life term imprisonment on charge of raping a girl in 2008.

The convict, Md Saddam (30) of Patharghata area under the city's Kotwali Police Station, has been on the run since the case was filed in 2008.

Judge Md Moshiur Rahman Khan of Chattogram Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 handed down the verdict after the court found him guilty beyond doubt crossing all records and evidence, said Public Prosecutor Advocate Jesmin Akhter.

The court also fined him Tk 20,000, the PP added.

According to the case statement, convict Saddam, who was 18-year-old during the incident, raped the then 14-year-old girl on February 7, 2008.  The victim's mother filed a case accusing Saddam on February 11.

After investigation, police pressed charges against the lone accused on March 27, 2008, while a court framed charges in the case on November 4, 2008.
