Man gets death for killing wife for dowry in Gazipur

A Gazipur court yesterday sentenced a man to death and fined Tk 50,000 for killing his wife for dowry.

The convicted is Jahangir Alam, 37, of Purbo Bahadurpur in Gazipur city.

The court also acquitted Jahangir's mother Jahanara Begum and his brother Jahid Hasan in the case.

According to the prosecution, Ayesha Akter Liza, 28, daughter of Hasen Ali of Kainjanul in the city was severely beaten by husband Jahangir for Tk 5 lakh dowry on August 15, 2010.

Locals recovered Ayesha and sent her to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries on the day.

Following the incident, Ayesha's brother filed a case against Jahangir, his mother and brother.
