Man to die for killing brother-in-law in Gazipur
A Gazipur court yesterday gave death penalty to a man on charge of killing his brother-in-law while sentenced him to life imprisonment on charge of killing his neigbour in Tongi's Boubazar area.
The convict, Badrul Islam, 26, of Mymensingh, was also fined Tk 10,000.
Badrul's brother-in-law Ismail came to visit him on June 15 when the former asked for a loan of Tk 13,000 but the latter refused him, initiating an altercation. At one point Badrul stabbed Ismail in the chest with a knife. Badrul's neighbour Belal was also stabbed as he arrived on the spot hearing a hue and cry.
Meanwhile in Gazipur city, police arrested a man and his five cohorts for killing his wife by pushing her into a large pond at Titarkul on Tuesday night.
Police fished out the body of Beauty, 28, of Manikganj, from the pond yesterday and sent it to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
Joydevpur police said Beauty was a folk singer and used to perform in different villages which her husband Selim Mia, 28, a shopkeeper, did not appreciate much.
During primary interrogation Selim admitted that he deliberately started quarrelling with Beauty during a boat journey which he arranged to kill his wife. At one point he slapped Beauty across the face repeatedly and finally pushed her off the boat, said Joydevpur police at a press conference.
The other five, including Selim's co-worker Shakil, 14, Ruble, 28, Liton Miah, 30, and Mamun Siddiqui, 28, did not know anything about the plan, said Selim adding that he only included them in the journey to make the whole incident seem credible.
