Lone accused sent to jail on surrender
A Dhaka court yesterday sent KM Zahirul Islam Palash, the lone accused of killing college teacher Krishna Kaberi Bishwas, to jail after he surrendered before it seeking bail.
Detectives sought a 10-day remand for Zahirul in the murder case. The court fixed October 11 for hearing the remand prayer.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ataul Haque ordered the authorities concern to send him jail denying his bail.
According to the case statement, in the night of March 30, Polash entered the flat of Sitangshu at at their flat in the capital's Mohammadpur on March 30to greet him on his belated birthday. But drugging him with contaminated juice, Jahirul hit his head with a hammer.
When Kaberi, 36, a former college teacher of Mission International College, tried to save her husband, the killer hacked her with a kitchen sickle and later set her on fire. She died the following day. The killing occurred following a feud over a business matter, sources said.
BRTA deputy director Sitangshu and their daughters Srabani Biswas Sruti, 14, and Arti Biswas, 8, were also injured in the attack.
Later, a murder case was filed accusing Palash as the lone accused.
