Lawyers holding demo at CMM court for keeping their fellow on dock for 2 hours

A section of lawyers of Dhaka Bar Association is holding a demonstration in front of Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court demanding immediate withdrawal of the additional chief metropolitan magistrate for keeping a lawyer on the dock for two hours yesterday.

Around 500 lawyers started the protest rally at the main gate of the court around 9:30am.

All the judicial activities at the CMM court and Chief Judicial Magistrate Court came to a halt following the protest.

The gate of the court was shut and no one is allowed to enter the court building.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Asaduzzaman Nur was supposed to sit at the court around 10:30am yesterday.

As he was late, lawyer Mohammad Rubel Ahmed Bhuiyan became agitated and asked the bench assistant the exact time when the magistrate was going to appear.

After sitting at the court, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate wanted to know why the lawyer had become agitated?

After hearing the matter, the magistrate kept the lawyer on the dock for two hours.  

Later, Dhaka Bar Association President Md Iqbal Hossain, Bar Association General Secretary Hossain Ali Khan Hasan, Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate AM Zulfikar Hayat and Dhaka Metropolitan Public prosecutor Abdullah Abu met with Mohammad Rubel and the additional chief metropolitan magistrate at the CMM's room and settled the issue.

Lawyer Mohammad Rubel today placed a written complaint to the general secretary of Dhaka Bar Association and demanded justice over the incident.
