Latif's Dhaka cases to be tried in single court

All the seven cases filed in different Dhaka courts against sacked minister Abdul Latif Siddique for his derogatory remarks on hajj and Tablighi Jamaat will be tried in a single court after the chief metropolitan magistrate of Dhaka yesterday ordered his subordinate to this effect.

CMM Bikash Kumar Saha passed the order after Latif's lawyer Mosharraf Hossain Kajol filed an application seeking permission to dispose of the cases in a single court.

Bringing the same allegation, several other cases were also filed against the former posts and telecommunications and ICT minister outside Dhaka in October last year when he was abroad.

Later, arrest warrants were issued against him as he failed to appear before the courts in due time.

Siddique was removed from the cabinet and expelled from Awami League on October 12 last year.

On November 25 last year, Latif returned home and surrendered to Dhanmondi Police Station. He was later sent to jail by a Dhaka court.       

Latif made controversial comments on hajj, Ijtema and Sajeeb Wazed Joy during an event in New York on September 28 last year.
