Landlord of Mufti Hannan gives deposition

A prosecution witness, the then landlord of Mufti Abdul Hannan, yesterday gave deposition before a Dhaka court in the August 21 grenade attack cases saying that Rapid Action Battalion men arrested Mufti Hannan, the prime accused, from his Badda residence on October 1, 2005.

Identifying Mufti Hannan in the dock. Md Ruhul Amin, the witness, told the court that Hannan introducing himself as "Jaman" and a computer businessman rented his house in September 2005 and started staying there since September 26.

Later he came to know that Hannan was a leader of Harkatul Jihad (Huji) and an accused in the grenade attack cases.

The tribunal then fixed August 17 for next hearing of the cases.

Of the 52 accused, eight who are now on bail and 26 including former state minister for home Lutfozzaman Babar who are in jail, were present in the dock while 18 others, including BNP Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman, have been absconding.
