Kamaruzzaman asks lawyers to place arguments tomorrow

War crimes convict on death row Muhammad Kamaruzzaman today asked his lawyers to place arguments before the Appellate Division, which is set to hear his review petition tomorrow.

His instruction came when five of his lawyers met him at Dhaka Central Jail this morning.

Claiming himself innocent, Kamaruzzaman expressed his hope to meet the lawyers again after the Supreme Court disposes of his review petition, Manir said.

The four other lawyers who met Kamaruzzaman are Ehsan Abdullah Siddiq, Moshiul Alam, Motiur Rahman Akand and Muzahedul Islam Shahin.

They entered the jail at 11:06am to meet the Jamaat leader for instructions on his petition seeking a review of the Supreme Court verdict upholding the death penalty.

International Crimes Tribunal-2 sentenced the Jamaat-e-Islami leader to death on May 9, 2013 for crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.

Kamaruzzaman submitted his appeal at the SC on June 6, 2013 challenging the judgment. The SC upheld it on November 3, 2014.

The tribunal issued the death warrant on February 19 and the prison authorities read it out to him that day. He then filed the review petition on March 5.
