Govt shuffles coordination bodies for speedy results

Staff Correspondent

The government yesterday reconstituted the divisional and district development coordination committees, expecting speedy implementation of development programmes.

Most of the previous members were retained but their jurisdiction and work modality were made specific, according to a Cabinet Division circular issued yesterday.

Blaming lack of coordination and cooperation for delay in implementation of development programmes, the circular said the field-level government agencies were now expected to cooperate more to maximise the benefits of the interventions.

Talking to journalists at his office, Cabinet Secretary Muhammad Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan said the committee members now had a clear idea about their roles.

"When one department executes a project, it is necessary that the other departments extend support for its speedy execution," he said.

The divisional commissioner and the deputy commissioner will respectively head the divisional and district committees.
