Govt mulling launch of visually appealing vessels on circular waterways around Dhaka

State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury today said the government was thinking of launching modern and visually pleasing vessels on circular waterways around Dhaka city.

The investment of private entrepreneurs would be welcomed in this regard, he said while inspecting the operation of the water bus and passenger services at Sadarghat in the capital.

"Now this river [Buriganga] is being used only for life and livelihood. We also want to use this river for recreation. That is why we are taking steps," the state minister said.

Khalid also said the government would welcome any kind of investment by private entrepreneurs to provide passenger services on the circular waterways, according to a press release of the ministry.
