One of the four giraffes at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park, Gazipur died on Saturday.

But the Safari park authorities could not confirm the disease that killed the member of the tallest mammal species in the world.

Abdul Jalil, Sreepur upazila livestock officer, said the giraffe was suffering from heart and lungs diseases and different body parts of the giraffe have been sent for laboratory tests.

A medical board including professors of Mymensingh Agricultural University and Jalil was formed on Saturday to investigate why the giraffe stopped food intake and was dozing for last few days but it died in the afternoon, said an official, seeking anonymity.

The giraffe, purchased from South Africa in 2011, was buried inside the park.
