Four arrested with 23k yaba pills and Tk 8.23 lakh in cash in Ctg
Police in a drive arrested four persons, including a husband and wife, and recovered 23,000 yaba pills and Tk 8.23 lakh in cash from a flat in New Chandgaon Residential area of Chattogram city this noon.
The arrestees are Mobarak Hossain (34), Md Masud Forkan (25), his wife Shamim Ara Shomi (26), and Forkan's nephew Rasel (20), said police.
Forkan is a tea trader at Bakalia's Kalamia Bazar while Mobarak is a surgical items trader, said SM Mehedi Hasan, deputy commissioner (South) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP).
DC Mehedi said while investigating the case filed with Bakalia Police Station on November 5 in connection with the recovery of firearms from two Rohingyas, police found a link to the four arrestees and conducted a drive at the third floor of Hazi Manson at Road 4 of New Chandgaon residential area.
"Raiding the house, police recovered 23,000 yaba pills and seized Tk 8.23 lakh in cash and 13 cheque books of different banks from their possession," said the DC. "Forkan used to talk with yaba traders in Myanmar while his friend Mobarak maintained communication with Rohingya camps.
"Police found huge transactions through the cheque books recovered from the flat," he said.
The police official said in the guise of religious dress code and lifestyle, they have continued yaba trading for long, fooling the public as well as the law enforcement agencies.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (South) Polash Kanti Nath said Mobarak and Forkan developed a friendship when they joined a religious programme.
