Death penalty sought for Sayeed's killers

People from 10 residential areas of Sylhet city yesterday demanded that those involved in the kidnapping and killing of schoolboy Abu Sayeed be awarded capital punishment.

The protesters from Rainagar, Darjipara, Jherjheripara, Agpara, Jharnarpar, Mirabazar, Manipuri Razbari, Shahi Eidgah, Kumarpara and Kharadipara made the demand during a procession. They demanded death penalty of constable Ebadur Rahman, so-called Rab informant Ataur Rahman Geda and district Ulema League general secretary Nurul Islam Rakib for the murder.

They also demanded that legal action be taken against Mahibul Islam Masum, publicity secretary of district Ulema League, after his arrest.

On Satuday, police recovered the decomposed body of Abu Sayeed, 9, a class-IV student of Shahi Eidgah Hazrat Shahi Mir Govt Primary School at the house of police constable Ebadur at Jharnapar in the city after he was kidnapped on Wednesday. Police arrested Ebadur, Rakib and Geda in this connection.
