Death of Naimul Abrar: SC upholds HC’s stay order on trial against Prothom Alo editor
The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court today upheld a High Court order that stayed the trial proceedings of a case filed against Prothom Alo Editor and Publisher Matiur Rahman over the death of Dhaka Residential Model College student Naimul Abrar Rahat.
Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division Justice Hasan Foez Siddique passed "no order" on a petition filed by the state, seeking stay on the HC's stay order.
Following the apex court's "no order", the HC's stay order on the trial proceedings against Matiur Rahman will remain in force, his lawyer Mustafizur Rahman Khan told The Daily Star.

Assistant Attorney General Md Saiful Islam appeared for the state during the hearing.
On December 13, the HC stayed for six months the trial proceedings of the case filed against the Prothom Alo editor over the death of Abrar.
On November 1, Abrar was electrocuted during the anniversary programme of Prothom Alo's youth magazine Kishor Alo.
The victim's father Mojibur Rahman filed the case with the Fourth Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court in Dhaka on November 6 last year.
