Ctg Jamaat chief on three-day remand in violence case

A Chittagong court yesterday placed Jamaat-e-Islami Chittagong city unit's acting chief Ahsanullah Chowdhury on a three-day remand in a case filed with Kotwali Police Station on January 16 under special power act, and explosive act for creating violence.

The court passed the order after police produced him with a 10-day remand prayer.

Detectives arrested Ahsanullah on Sunday in Halishahar. The Jamaat leader is accused in several cases over creating violence in the city and attacking police during hartals and blockades, said police.

BSS from Chittagong reports, police on Sunday night detained four activists of BNP, six of Jamaat-e-Islami and three of Jamaat-backed Islami Chhatra Shibir in Sitakunda, Hathazari, Lohagara and Satkania upazilas of Chittagong to prevent "possible acts of sabotage" during the ongoing country-wide blockade and hartals enforced by BNP-led 20-party alliance.
