Cricketer Shahadat denied bail

Former national cricketer Kazi Shahadat Hossain was denied bail and sent to jail yesterday after completion of a three-day remand in the case filed for torturing his 11-year-old domestic help Mahfuza Akhter Happy.

Yesterday, the investigation officer placed a report before the court saying that he had gathered important information from Shahadat which is now being verified and therefore, the IO appealed to the court to confine Shahadat to jail until the investigation completes.

The case was filed on September 6 against Shahadat and his wife, who was arrested in the capital's Malibagh and now is in prison. Bangladesh Cricket Board suspended Shahadat a week after the lawsuit.

Shahadat surrendered before court on October 5. On October 8, he was placed on a three-day remand.
