CJ urges judges to cut annual vacation time
Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha yesterday urged judges to reduce their annual vacation period and devote more time in courts.
"In a poor country like ours, long vacations are a luxury we cannot afford," he said at a conference in Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the capital.
The Supreme Court organised the programme "Jatiya Bichar Bibhagio Shommelon- 2015".
The number of cases disposed this year has increased across all courts, he said, adding that the number can be higher if judges give more effort.
Giving an example, Sinha said the SC, between January 17 and November 30 this year, disposed of 9,356 cases, while last year the number was 5,789.
Mentioning that about 1,300 judges worked at lower courts, he said the number should be at least double that.
He also announced that every judge would get a computer by June next year.
