Cabinet approves BNCC Act
with Thailand
The cabinet yesterday approved in principle the draft of "The Bangladesh National Cadet Corps (BNCC) Act-2015" aiming to bring BNCC under a legal framework and set up a separate department to this end.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam said the proposed law would infuse more dynamism into the activities of BNCC which has been running under the University Officers Cadet Corps Act 1979 which in turn had been framed in light of a very old law enacted in 1950.
According to the proposed law, there will be a separate department for BNCC under the Ministry of Defence, he said, adding that a director general would be appointed by the government and he would be the head of BNCC.
Besides, there would be an advisory committee to smoothly run the department which would have its headquarters in the capital and more branches elsewhere in the country, he added.
The cabinet also approved a proposal to sign a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of tourism between Bangladesh and Thailand.
