ASK condemns law enforcers' foiling of Boisabi march in Khagrachari

Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) has condemned law enforcers' obstruction of a Boisabi procession on Sunday in Khagrachari town calling the move an "attack".
In a statement issued yesterday, the organisation also expressed grave concern over an incident of vandalism of a temple in Ullapara upazila of Sirajganj.    
Citing media sources, ASK said law enforcers attacked a crowd preparing to bring out a procession on the occasion of Boisabi on April 12 and arrested a college student.
It also said, "Local businessmen alleged that law enforcers forced them to close their shops after the incident and prevented journalists from taking pictures."
Meanwhile, miscreants attacked Jhikra temple in Ullapara on April 11 vandalising 10 idols and looting valuables.
As a result, the scheduled Charak Puja and fair could not be held on the temple premises.
The ASK statement also mentioned an incident of arson and vandalism of a Durga temple in Bagerhat and an attack on a Hindu village at Amtali upazila of Barguna on April 10.    
"The incidents of attacks and looting during religious festivals of different communities are increasing again keeping the minority communities in panic," it read.
Such incidents, it added, point out the lack of effective government steps to uphold the rights of people to practice different religions.
It urged the government to take immediate steps to ensure safety of different religious communities.
