7 get life term for murder in Barisal

A Barisal court yesterday sentenced seven people to life term imprisonment for the murder of Advocate Giasuddin Masud, a lawyer of Pirojpur.

The seven convicted are: Kamrul Islam Khan, Monirul Islam Santu, Rezaul Talukdar, Alamin Shikdar Rony, Mizanur Rahman Jamaddar, Azizul Huq Khokan and Soharab Khan.

They were also fined Tk 20,000 each, in default to suffer one more year in prison. Among the accused, Kamrul, Monirul and Rezaul were present before the court while the others are on the run.

Judge of Speedy Trial Tribunal in Barisal Dilip Kumar Bhoumik also acquitted Sakhawat Hossain Tuhin, Nazmul Huq Murad and Morshed Jamaddar from the charge. 

According to the verdict, Giasuddin was shot dead by the convicts on October 11, 2009 in Kachuakathi of Pirojpur.
