3-year-old dies in Dhaka after falling from a battery-run rickshaw
A three-year-old boy died and his sister suffered injuries after falling from a battery-run rickshaw in Dhaka's South Banasree area this evening.
Deceased Mohammad Yusuf was on his twelve-year-old sister Sabiha Akter's lap. Sabiha is being treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital for wounds on her face.
The accident took place around 6:30pm when the rickshaw puller suddenly applied the hard brake, the victim's mother Yasmin Akter said.
Yasmin also said she was holding her baby girl while Yusuf was seated on his elder sister's lap on the rickshaw when they were heading towards a relative's house nearby.
The battery-run rickshaw was going much quicker than normal ones and the two lost their balance and fell on the ground after the rickshaw puller braked, said eye witness Rakib Al Hasan. He also said a private car then hit the baby boy after he fell.
The duo was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared Yusuf dead around 7:30pm.
The body was sent to hospital morgue for autopsy, said Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of police outpost at the hospital.
