3 JMB men remanded

A Chittagong court yesterday granted a two-day remand each for three alleged activists of banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in a mugging and killing case.

The 'JMB men' Bulbul Ahmed alias Fuad alias Roki, Md Shajahan alias Kajal and Mahbubur Rahman alias Khokan were produced before the court.

On September 5, detectives held five alleged JMB men, including its commander Taufique-ul-Islam alias Javed alias Rana and recovered some hand-made grenades, one pistol, ammunition and bomb making materials from a floor of Hazi Nur Ahmed Tower in Khowajnagar of Azimpur in the city.

Of them, Javed was killed in a grenade explosion in the city's Kuaish area while police conducting a drive there to recover grenades on September 6 following his confessional statement.

Police later claimed that they had found link of the "JMB men" with the mugging and killing a manager of a local company in Majhirghat area of the city's Sadarghat on September 23. They threw a hand grenade during the snatching incident leaving their two cohorts -- Robiul and Rafik -- and the manager dead.

Before a court on October 7, another arrested "JMB man" Babu confessed to the killing of a pir  and his attendant on September 4.
