Administered by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Australia Awards Scholarships are long-term awards offered to students from Australia’s partner countries wishing to undertake full-time undergraduate and graduate studies. The awards seek to offer opportunities, especially to students in the Indo-Pacific regions at participating institutions, for various fields of study, including science, engineering, health, social inclusion, public policy governance, inclusive economic development, and many others. Bangladesh is among the list of countries eligible for this programme, and this scholarship is available for students seeking to undertake graduate studies.

Benefits offered

The Australia Awards Scholarship is applicable for the minimum amount of time required for the awardee to complete their studies. Benefits include full tuition fees, return air travel payment for a single return, a one-time allowance towards accommodation expenses and study materials, a biweekly contribution to living expenses, the Introductory Academic Program (IAP), and Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), among others.

Who can apply

For the 2027 intake, Bangladeshi students seeking to pursue a master’s by research or coursework may apply provided they meet certain eligibility criteria. Students who hold permanent residency (PR) or citizenship or are married to a person who holds or is eligible for PR or citizenship in Australia or New Zealand are not eligible for application. Those who have received an Australia Awards Scholarship in the past four years are also deemed ineligible. Students must be citizens of Bangladesh and reside in the country for eligibility. Specific target groups are mentioned in detail in the country profile of the Australia Awards website; however, those serving as military personnel are not eligible for the scholarship. Applicants must also have an overall band score of 6.5 or higher in IELTS, with no individual band being less than 6. Documents required

Applicants must submit the following documents to support their application:

  • Passport
  • Transcript and certificate of bachelor’s and master’s degrees (if applicable)
  • IELTS, TOEFL or PTE certificate (valid at 01 January 2027)
  • Development Impact and Linkages Plan
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Current employment certificate
  • Proof of previous work experiences
  • For applicants from the Government of Bangladesh,
    • proof of cadre service, and
    • job confirmation letter
  • Two referee reports for Master’s in Coursework applicants: one academic and one professional.
  • Three referee reports for Master’s in Research applicants: two academic and one professional.
  • Additional requirements for master’s by research applicants:
    • Research proposal
    • Evidence of written (email or letter) in-principle support from potential supervisor(s).

How to apply

Applications can be submitted online or through mail. Applicants must check their eligibility and research available courses, prepare supporting documents, and submit their applications through the Online Australia Awards Scholarships Information System (OASIS) before the closing date. When registering online, applicants will be asked to answer some basic questions to determine eligibility and then given a unique registration number, username, and password to proceed with their application. Applicants are strongly advised to apply online, but if failing to do so, detailed instructions on applying through mail are given in the country profile.
