IPDC Finance and Mission Save Bangladesh spread smiles among underprivileged children
Due to the second wave of the pandemic, people on the underprivileged end of the society are suffering terribly. Many have lost their sources of livelihood, while others have run out of the meagre savings that they had. An ominous cloud hangs over them, with uncertainty and hopelessness accumulating with every passing day. The ones who seem to suffer the most are the underprivileged children. With schools shut down and parents being thrown into the cusps of poverty, these children barely have any anticipation for Eid-ul-Fitr. Unlike their peers, these underprivileged children cannot afford to buy a new dress, or even have a day of celebration. This is what IPDC Finance and Mission Save Bangladesh (MSB) wanted to alleviate.

Shohoz hands over insurance cheque to the family of the deceased in road accident
The country's leading online and mobile app-based service provider Shohoz has handed over insurance cheques to the families of Md. Yasin Ali and his wife Hosneara Feroza, who were deceased in a road accident at the Dhaka-Bogra highway in February. In collaboration with Sunlife Insurance Company Ltd. and SR Travels, formal transfer of insurance cheques has been completed at Shohoz office in compliance with the required hygiene rules. Yasin Ali and his wife Hosneara Feroza’s two daughters Mehnaz Tabassum and Fatema Tasnia received the cheques on behalf of the family of the deceased.

A society for all, with everyone
According to the Bangladesh Sample Vital Statistic 2018, nine out of every 1,000 people in this country have some form of disabilities (gender-wise, 9.3 percent are males and 7.7 percent females). A November 2020 data reveal 21 lakh 43 thousand 353 to be the number of people with disability, registered with the Department of Social Services. And many of them remain left out of mainstream economic development, and a lot of it has do with public perception about people with disabilities, especially the differently-abled communities.

ULAB English Department Commemorates Shakespeare

The event, “Shakespeare: A Willful Bard,” was held on April 22, 2021.Speakers at the program included Professor Shamsad Mortuza, Acting Vice-Chancellor, ULAB; Professor Kaiser Haq, poet and translator; Professor Syed Manzoorul Islam, fiction writer and critic; and Dr. Sohana Manzoor, fiction writer and editor of The Daily Star Literature page; all faculty members of the Department of English and Humanities (DEH) at ULAB.
