Unico Hospital hosts national workshop on critical care nursing
Unico Hospitals PLC organised the National Workshop on Critical Care Nursing 2026 to strengthen the clinical knowledge and practical skills of nursing professionals involved in critical care.
Held under the theme "Advancing Excellence in Critical Care Nursing", the workshop brought together nursing professionals from hospitals across Bangladesh to discuss evidence-based practices in caring for critically ill patients, according to a press release.
Halima Akhter, registrar of the Bangladesh Nursing and Midwifery Council (BNMC), inaugurated the workshop as the chief guest.
The programme was chaired by Elizabeth Jothi, chief of nursing service at Unico Hospitals PLC, while Ardra Kurien, chief executive officer of Unico Hospitals PLC, attended as the chief patron.
Among the distinguished guests were Brig. Gen. (Retd.) Dr. Md. Sharif Ahmed, chief medical services of Unico Hospitals PLC; Prof. Dr. Mohammad Omar Faruq, founding president of the Bangladesh Society of Critical Care Medicine; Dr. Umme Qulsum, consultant in critical care medicine at Unico Hospitals PLC; Ahasan Habib, national nurse specialist of the ProNurse Project at Cowater International, Canada; and Dr. Nahida Akhter, president of the Critical Care Nursing Society of Bangladesh.
The workshop featured scientific sessions on critical care nursing, patient assessment, advanced haemodynamic monitoring, airway and ventilator management, care of mechanically ventilated patients and intensive care unit crisis management.
Participants also received hands-on training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), defibrillation, crash cart management, endotracheal tube care, suction techniques, mechanical ventilator management and pressure ulcer prevention.
A post-test and quiz competition were held, followed by the distribution of certificates and awards to outstanding participants.
According to the organisers, the initiative was aimed at promoting continuous professional development and strengthening the quality and safety of critical care services in Bangladesh.
