NSU, Russian House host musical evening to mark Bangladesh–Russia ties

North South University (NSU), in collaboration with the Russian House in Dhaka, organised a musical evening to mark Bangladesh’s Independence Day and the “Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia”.

The event was held on April 9 on the university campus and was organised by the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), says a press release.

More than 800 students and faculty members attended the programme.

Professor Halimur R. Khan, director of IQAC, spoke about the role of the former Soviet Union during Bangladesh’s Liberation War in 1971 and its contribution to cultural cooperation.

Alexandra Khlevnoy, director of the Russian House in Dhaka, highlighted higher education opportunities in Russia, including scholarship programmes.

Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, vice chancellor of NSU, attended as chief guest.

He spoke about the longstanding relations between Bangladesh and Russia and the potential for further cooperation in education and research.

Professor Nasar U. Ahmed, pro vice chancellor of NSU, also addressed the event.

The programme included video presentations on Bangladesh–Russia relations and education opportunities.

A musical performance was presented by the Dhaka Melodiya Project.

The performance included works by Dmitri Shostakovich and Sergei Rachmaninoff, along with Russian folk songs.

Organisers said the event aimed to strengthen cultural exchange and academic cooperation between the two countries.
