BUFT hosts ‘Soil, Skin and Memory’ exhibition

BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) held an exhibition titled “Soil, Skin and Memory” at its campus.

The exhibition was organised at the university’s multipurpose hall in collaboration with the BUFT Heritage Club, says a press release.

The concept was proposed by Refaya Turshin, founder and creative designer of RT Atelier, and curated by Afsana Sharmin, assistant professor of fashion studies at BUFT.

The event was inaugurated by Muzaffar U. Siddique, founder chairman of the board of trustees of BUFT, as chief guest.

Prof. Dr. Eng. Ayub Nabi Khan, vice chancellor (designate), was also present.

A seminar was held alongside the exhibition, with keynote speeches by Prof. Dr. Masud Rashid of Southeast University and Prof. AKM Golam Rabbani of the University of Dhaka.

The programme included a presentation by Refaya Turshin and a panel discussion moderated by architect M. Wahid Asif.

Panel members included fashion designer Maheen Khan, artist and designer Kuhu Plamondon, Sadia Akter Mumu of the Institute of Architects Bangladesh and a professor of history.

A fashion showcase by RT Atelier was also held, followed by critique sessions.

Academics and professionals including Biswajit Goswami, Dr. Shamim Reza, Rokaiya Ahmed Purna and Afsana Ferdousi also contributed to the event.

The exhibition was attended by students, faculty members and industry representatives.

The organisers said the event focused on ethical fashion, cultural identity and sustainable design.
