Eastern Bank provides Tk 75 lakh to Chokher Sheba Hospital for eye care
Eastern Bank PLC (EBL) has provided financial support worth Tk 75 lakh to Chokher Sheba Hospital Ltd to expand access to quality eye care for underprivileged communities.
The financial support will help the hospital provide advanced treatment, with a particular focus on diabetic eye diseases, retinal disorders and precision eye surgery, according to a press release.
Hassan O Rashid, managing director of the bank, handed over a cheque for Tk 75 lakh to Brig Gen (retd) Prof Nazrul Islam, director of the hospital, following the recent signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at the bank’s head office in Dhaka, according to the press release.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Nazrul said, “Restoring sight is more than a medical intervention; it restores dignity, independence and hope.”
“We are grateful for Eastern Bank PLC’s support, which will strengthen our ophthalmology services and enable us to make quality eye care more accessible and affordable for those who need it most,” he added.
Hassan said, “Chokher Sheba Hospital has been making a meaningful difference by providing quality eye care to people across the country.”
“EBL is proud to partner with the hospital. This partnership will help expand its capacity to serve marginalised communities and improve access to quality eye care services,” he added.
Through this partnership, Chokher Sheba Hospital will continue providing consultations, treatment and eye surgeries to underprivileged and vulnerable patients at subsidised costs, helping improve access to quality eye care across Bangladesh.
Md Mominul Islam, chairman of the hospital; Muntassir, consultant; Ayatul Ahammed, information technology and marketing officer; Ahmed Shaheen, additional managing director of the bank; Ziaul Karim, head of brand, marketing and communications; Maj (retd) Md Abdus Salam, head of administration; Md Abdullah Al Mamun, company secretary; Md Maskur Reza, head of business information systems; and Maj (retd) Arif Chowdhury, head of cash management, were also present.
