ULAB celebrates 23rd foundation day
The University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) celebrated its 23rd foundation day on Sunday at its campus in Dhaka, highlighting the university’s achievements in education, innovation, creativity and community engagement.
The daylong celebration brought together distinguished guests, faculty members, students, alumni and members of the ULAB community under the theme “Celebrating 23 Years of Building Capability”.
The campus featured five interactive zones -- Discover, Develop, Demonstrate, Distinguish and Belong -- showcasing academic opportunities, experiential learning, student achievements, creativity and club activities.
The celebrations also featured student capability showcases, global cultural and embassy engagements, the “Ideas of Bangladesh” wall, international partnership exhibitions, Chinese calligraphy by the Confucius Institute, and Japanese cultural activities, including a yukata dress-up and origami workshop hosted by the Embassy of Japan.
Prof Shamsad Mortuza, vice-chancellor of ULAB, inaugurated the celebration as the chief guest, according to a press release.
In his remarks, Mortuza highlighted ULAB’s 23-year journey and its commitment to quality education, innovation and producing future-ready graduates. A video presentation highlighting the university’s achievements and milestones was also screened.
Kazi Anis Ahmed, president of the ULAB board of trustees, said creativity, independent thinking and academic excellence remain central to the university’s founding vision and educational philosophy.
AKM Tareq, deputy managing director of Mutual Trust Bank PLC, joined the event as the special guest.
He underscored the importance of practical skills, leadership and industry-academia collaboration in preparing graduates for the future.
Prof Milan Kumar Bhattacharjee, special adviser to the board of trustees and treasurer of ULAB, highlighted the university’s institutional progress, innovation and future aspirations.
Prof Jude William R Genilo, pro-vice-chancellor of ULAB, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the guests, organisers, faculty members, students, alumni and others involved in the celebration.
The festivities concluded with a concert featuring a headline performance by popular rock band WARFAZE.
