Stocks experience massive fall

Star Business Report

The index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange experienced a massive fall today because of thin participation of the investors.

The DSEX, the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), nosedived 95 points, or 1.35 per cent to 6,917.

Turnover at the DSE hit Tk 1,129 crore, which was 14 per cent down from the previous day's Tk 1,314 crore.

Some investors believe that the market index may move between 6,800 points to 7,300 points, so they sold shares when the index went close to 7,300 points level, according to a stock broker.

On the other hand, some investors are quite shaky as they think that the money market has some liquidity pressure.

If the money market suffers from liquidity challenge then it will create a pressure on the stock market also, the broker said.

At the DSE, 75 stocks advanced, 259 fell and 31 remained the same.

Shurwid Industries topped the gainers' list that rose 9.92 per cent followed by Acme Pesticides, Sena Kalyan Insurance, Tosrifa Industries, and Mithun Knitting.

LR Global Mutual Fund One shed mostly that dropped 10 per cent followed by Kattali Textile, Bangladesh Industrial Finance, Gemini Sea Foods and Premier Leasing.

Stocks of One Bank traded mostly that worth Tk 108 crore followed by Beximco Ltd, IFIC Bank, First Security Islami Bank, and Delta Life Insurance.
