Shopowners to close shops, malls by 8pm
The Bangladesh Shop Business Owners Association (BSBOA) today announced that all shops, commercial establishments, and shopping malls across the country will close by 8pm.
Shop owners made the decision to assist the government in conserving electricity and fuel amid the ongoing energy crisis, according to a press release.
Nazmul Hasan Mahmud, president of the association, said a joint meeting of the standing committees of the BSBOA and the Dhaka Metropolitan Shop Owners Association decided to close all shops, commercial outlets, and shopping malls by 8pm due to the energy shortage.
However, hotels, pharmacies, emergency service shops, and fresh markets will remain exempt from the measure.
Mahmud said the notice is being issued today and takes immediate effect. While some businesses may not be informed today, it will be enforced in all malls from tomorrow.
