Farooq Sobhan appointed chairman of GoZayaan for Bangladesh operations

Farooq Sobhan has been appointed as the first chairman of GoZayaan for Bangladesh operations.

The appointment brings decades of national and international leadership experience to the travel technology company’s board as it expands its operations and seeks to build systems that empower Bangladesh.

Farooq, one of Bangladesh’s prominent public figures, has held senior positions in the foreign service, government and private sector.

He served as foreign secretary from 1995 to 1997, following a diplomatic career that included postings as Bangladesh’s ambassador or high commissioner to China, India, Malaysia and the United Nations.

He later served as executive chairman of the Bangladesh Board of Investment and special envoy to the prime minister from 1997 to 1999.

Farooq has also served as president and CEO of the Bangladesh Enterprise Institute, a private-sector think tank.

He currently chairs the governing bodies of SAJIDA Foundation and the CSR Centre, and is chairman of The Osiris Group, a private equity, advisory and consulting firm.

Commenting on his appointment, Farooq said GoZayaan founder and CEO Ridwan Hafiz had briefed him on the company’s growth and plans to expand into Malaysia and the region.

“I’m impressed by his vision to serve our expatriates there,” he said, adding that he looked forward to helping increase remittance flows to Bangladesh.
