Built on Legacy, Driving the Future: GAC Accelerates Bangladesh's Transition to Premium Electric Mobility
Built on decades of automotive experience, global partnerships and continuous innovation, GAC is bringing its legacy of mobility to Bangladesh. This comes at a time when the country's automotive market is rapidly embracing electrification. GAC is accelerating this transition by boldly expanding its portfolio in Bangladesh. Anticipating consumer demand for superior range, advanced technology and premium comfort, GAC has officially introduced its dedicated electric vehicle brand, AION, to the country. This sophisticated new line-up, spearheaded by the state-of-the-art AION V and the dynamic AION Y, seamlessly complements the company's established conventional vehicles and the luxurious E9 PHEV MPV.
GAC's heritage reaches back to the early development of Guangzhou's automotive industry. In 1954, a municipal bus repair workshop within this industrial lineage hand-built a bus under the "South China" name. The modern Guangzhou Automobile Group was founded in 1997 and built its automotive expertise through advanced manufacturing and global partnerships. Its joint venture with Honda followed in 1998, and its partnership with Toyota in 2004. These collaborations helped GAC develop deep capabilities in lean manufacturing, rigorous quality control and supply-chain management.
The company established its R&D Centre in 2006, and in 2010 the first vehicle under its own Trumpchi marque, marketed internationally as GAC Motor, rolled off the line. GAC established its new-energy vehicle operation in 2017 and later developed AION into an independently operated brand dedicated to electric mobility. In July 2026, GAC's 30 millionth vehicle rolled off the production line, marking a major milestone in a journey spanning nearly three decades as a group and more than seven decades of industrial heritage. To date, GAC's global footprint spans 110 countries and regions across five continents, with a network of over 746 sales and service outlets, 7 overseas manufacturing plants, and 9 parts warehouses.
For potential electric vehicle buyers, driving range is often the most critical factor, as consumers naturally want to know exactly how far they can travel before needing a recharge. Addressing this common anxiety, GAC has introduced the AION V to Bangladesh with an impressive 485-kilometre range. Its range is measured under the WLTP cycle, a globally recognised testing standard designed to provide a more realistic indication of real-world driving range. AION uses its advanced Magazine Battery 2.0, designed with exceptional safety standards. It has successfully passed nail penetration, bullet penetration and bending tests without any fire occurring, demonstrating its strong safety performance.
For EVs, the WLTP range is generally a more realistic estimate than older laboratory testing methods, though real-world range can still vary. Offered in two variants, Premium and Luxury, this model combines the everyday practicality of an SUV with a spacious, technology-driven cabin. It provides a versatile solution for drivers seeking a reliable vehicle for both daily city commutes and extended road trips, while seamlessly expanding GAC's electric portfolio alongside the AION Y. The AION V comes with a five-year vehicle warranty, while the motor and battery are covered by an eight-year warranty, subject to applicable terms and conditions. The starting price of the AION V is BDT 52 lakh.
Where the AION V emphasises electric range and everyday versatility, the GAC E9 elevates the portfolio with a distinctly first-class approach to passenger comfort. Available in GL and GX variants, the cabin's crown jewel is its second-row executive pilot seats featuring a signature "One-Button Spa" mode. With a single touch, these chairs recline into zero-gravity comfort while activating built-in massage, heating and ventilation. Complemented by a 15.6-inch ceiling HD TV, Yamaha audio and soundproof glass, the sanctuary-like cabin takes priority alongside bold exterior styling and dual electric sliding doors.
Delivering a 136-kilometre pure electric range and a massive 1,032-kilometre combined range, the E9 merges first-class passenger comfort with advanced safety features such as 360-degree airbags and automatic parking. The GAC E9 comes with a six-year vehicle warranty, while the battery is covered by an eight-year warranty, subject to applicable terms and conditions. The GAC E9 is currently available in two variants, GL and GX, with prices starting from BDT 85 lakh.
This diverse mix of vehicles arrives at a crucial time for Bangladesh. The country's transition to electric mobility is still taking shape, and consumers have widely varying budgets, needs and levels of EV familiarity. Because buying an EV involves new questions regarding battery technology, charging and everyday usability, having access to first-hand experience is vital. To support this transition, GAC's flagship showroom, located at 215 Bir Uttam Mir Shawkat Sarak in Dhaka's Tejgaon Industrial Area, serves as an interactive hub. Here, prospective buyers can explore and compare the entire line-up in person, including the E9, AION V, AION Y, EMKOO and EMZOOM.
